Restricts airflow so the coil cannot absorb or release enough heat. Cure: clean or replace every 4–6 weeks.

  1. Dirty / blocked air filter
Restricts airflow so the coil cannot absorb or release enough heat.
Cure: clean or replace every 4–6 weeks.

  2. Dirty indoor or outdoor coil
Dust acts as insulation and lowers heat-transfer efficiency.
Cure: have coils chemically washed once a year.

  3. Refrigerant charge is low (leak) or over-charged
Low charge → coil runs too cold (cooling) or too hot (heating), icing or poor cycle.
Over-charge → compressor overheats and capacity drops.
Cure: leak-test, repair, then weigh in factory charge.

  4. Wrong thermostat setting or bad sensor
Set-point too high in summer or too low in winter, or sensor is in a draft / sun patch.
Cure: check set-point, calibrate or relocate sensor.

  5. Blocked or leaky ductwork
Closed dampers, crushed flex, torn insulation, or open crawl-space return steal capacity.
Cure: inspect ducts, seal leaks with mastic, balance dampers.
